With its soccer teams winning titles Saturday, Wakeland High School became the first school to win University Interscholastic League (UIL) boys and girls soccer championships in the same year since 1985.
Richardson High School is the only other school to do it since the UIL added soccer as a sport in 1983.
The Wakeland boys won their second straight title and third overall, while the Wakeland girls won their second overall title. Wakeland didn't open until the 2006-07 school year, but its soccer teams have already made seven state appearances and won five state championships.
What's so special about Wakeland?
"What's special is the kids and the school," Wakeland boys coach Andy Holt said. "Our motto in athletics is 'When you play one of us, you play all of us,' and you can see that here with all the support."
A large Wakeland crowd traveled to Georgetown to see the Wolverines finish their missions.
"We are incredibly proud of the Wakeland players and coaches and everyone who contributed to this accomplishment," Frisco ISD Athletic Director David Kuykendall said. "They showed what the combination of talent, hard work and determination can do."

Here are recaps from the boys and girls championship matches:
GIRLS
It was an unbelievable finish for the Wakeland girls soccer team, which won the 5A state championship with a 4-3 victory over Grapevine in a shootout.
Wakeland (24-1-4) trailed three times in the match -- 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2 before Hannah Mandell scored a goal with 1:25 left in overtime to tie the match at 3-3 and set up the shootout.
Each team scored on its first four attempts in the shootout, and then after Wakeland scored on its fifth attempt, Wakeland goalkeeper Mackenzie Wilbanks blocked a shot and then had to dive and knock the ball away again as it spun toward the goal.
"We've been through so much," said Wakeland's Payton Adams, who was named MVP of the match. "This shows what we can do together."
Wakeland sent coach Iseed Khoury out a winner in his last match before retirement.
"It can't get better than this," Khoury said.
BOYS
The Wakeland boys soccer team captured its second straight 5A state title with a 3-1 victory over Aledo.
Wakeland finished fourth in District 13-5A -- the Frisco ISD district -- this year, but then the Wolverines got on a roll in the playoffs. At the state tournament, Wakeland (19-4-6) knocked off two teams that were previously undefeated, Pharr Valley View and Aledo.
Wakeland dominated Aledo, piling up 16 shots on goal and not allowing a goal until the final two minutes on a penalty kick. Wakeland's goals were scored by Marc Borbonus, Reid Stewart and William Hitchcock.
"We all wanted it so bad," said Borbonus, who was named the game's MVP. "We were so focused before every game.
