Benefits

Frisco ISD aligns instruction and assessment to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) course standards. By aligning assessments and grades to standards, FISD ensures:

  • Accuracy and consistency of grades

  • Clarifying learning for students

  • Providing more accurate feedback

  • Focusing on specific skills and student learning

When students exhibit areas for improvement, educators provide opportunities for students to get support through tailored reteaching and instruction. When students are involved in the learning process by knowing their strengths and where they need to improve, they can work with their teachers and parents to set meaningful goals, strive to achieve them and experience success.

For Students

“I now know exactly what I need to work on and where my strengths are. I’m learning how I learn.” - Frisco ISD student

  • Daily learning goals are clearly defined and aligned with state standards.

  • Students have multiple opportunities and ways to demonstrate their learning. Student practice is monitored, but not included in the final grade calculation.

  • Students monitor their own progress toward the achievement of specific learning goals.

  • Students can see what they have and haven’t learned to help focus their efforts.

  • Standards-Based Practices give students ownership of their learning, creating an awareness that leads to self-motivation and self-advocacy, and with the academic skills to meet the challenges of courses in college.

For Parents

“By knowing exactly what my child is struggling on, I am able to ask him about specific topics that he needs to work on and help him know what questions to ask when he goes in for additional help” - Frisco ISD parent

  • Parents have more information about what the child has and has not learned yet.

  • Parents have specific information on how to support their child because they know where their child is progressing well, and where their child may need additional support.

  • Parents are empowered to increase their child's confidence and help their students set goals.

For Teachers

"It has helped me in my class with creating a culture of learning over grades.” - Frisco ISD teacher

  • Teachers know where students stand in their progress in learning and precisely respond to student needs.

  • Teachers can provide more specific feedback to students and help them set goals.

  • Alignment in grading practices across classrooms and campuses, promoting fairness to students.

  • Assessment results help teachers determine when students need extra help and when they need more challenging work.
