The privacy, safety, and security of our students and staff are top priorities in Frisco ISD. We are dedicated to protecting student data while they are online and keeping parents informed about our data safeguarding practices.
FISD encourages students, parents and staff to educate themselves on data privacy and security issues. If you have any concerns about digital resources, please contact your child’s teacher for further information regarding digital tools students are using in the classroom.
Frisco Independent School District in collaboration with other Texas school districts (Texas Student Privacy Alliance TXSPA) shares common concerns around student privacy. The goal of the TXSPA is to set standards of both practice and expectations around student privacy such that all parties involved have a common understanding of expectations. Adopting and implementing a common Student Data Privacy Agreement shall be used by all member schools when implementing any online application. By adopting such a contract all vendors and schools have common expectations when entering into a relationship or implementation without having to renegotiate terms in every new instance.
In December 2022, Governor Greg Abbott required all state agencies to ban the video sharing application TikTok from all state-owned and state-issued devices and networks. Governor Abbott also directed the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and the Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) to develop a plan providing state agencies guidance on managing digital devices used to conduct state business. Following the issuance of the Governor’s directive, the 88th Texas Legislature passed Senate Bill 1893, which prohibits the use of covered applications on governmental entity devices. In compliance with law and in line with the plan developed by DPS and DIR, Frisco ISD established a regulation to ensure cybersecurity protections on Frisco ISD devices, specifically addressing the covered applications identified under law.
