School Bus Safety Regulations

The Transportation Department's primary concern is student safety. Statistics show that the most dangerous times for students are before and after they are on the bus. Parents must assume the responsibility for their students traveling back and forth from home to the stop.

During the annual registration process, parents are required to confirm that they have accepted the bus rules and reviewed them with their student(s).

Bus Ridership Capacities

School bus sizes are stated in terms of total passenger capacity. The maximum capacity allows three per seat. When the bus is at maximum capacity, it may seem crowded, but it is not over capacity. It is the goal of the Transportation Department to fully utilize all the space on all the buses in our fleet.

Student Ridership

All students must ride their assigned bus and load/unload at their assigned stop. Bus-hopping or changing from assigned buses is not permitted. Students who do not load/unload at their assigned stop and/or engage in bus-hopping may lose bus privileges.

Large Items

All items brought on board must fit in the student’s lap. Please make special arrangements for any items that would take up another student's seat. Such as:

  • Band instruments (such as but not limited to tubas and euphoniums)

  • Large projects

  • Sports equipment (such as but not limited to golf clubs and tennis racquet)

  • Color guard flags or poles
