AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination)

Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is a series of courses that prepare students for college and career readiness and success. Students receive instruction using a rigorous college preparatory curriculum provided by AVID Center, tutor-facilitated study groups, motivational activities, and academic success skills. In AVID, students participate in activities that incorporate strategies focused on writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading to support their academic growth. Additionally, students engage in activities around college and career opportunities and explore their own student agency, giving students voice and often choice in how they learn.  Starting with the middle school foundation, the high school AVID courses build each year to refine skills and better prepare students for their planning for life after high school.

AVID is currently offered to 7th and 8th grader students at Hunt Middle School and Staley Middle School and to 9th -12th grade students at Frisco High School and Memorial High School.  Students in eighth grade AVID have the option to complete their Health requirement, and high school AVID students can meet their speech requirement by completing at least one year.
